About
Hello, my name is Madeline Smith and I am a senior at Colorado State University, double majoring in Political Science and International Relations with a concentration in Global Policy and French. At the BIED Society, I am a research specialist for the Chinese economy and cybersecurity. In the past, my areas of research have been the economic impacts of Brexit in Switzerland and primarily about people displaced due to climate change. I studied International Relations and Multilateral Diplomacy at the School of International Training in Geneva, Switzerland during this research period, giving me global insight through access to the UN and its various resources.Â
I hope to use what I learn in this position to work in the State Department in a foreign service role. International politics are at a pivotal point and I would like to use my leadership and communication skills to improve our global system for everyone. This drives my interest in China, as well, because our relationship with this global superpower is very important, and maintaining positive ties to them is crucial for national security and worldwide innovation. Working with the BIED Society I hope to expand my knowledge and develop career opportunities in this sector.Â
